God Loves YOU

1 God Loves You!

The Bible says, "God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life"
The problem is that...

2 All of us have done, said or thought things that are wrong. This is called sin, and our sins have separated us from God.

The Bible says "All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." God is perfect and holy, and our sins separate us from God forever. The Bible says "The wages of sin is death."
The good news is that, about 2,000 years ago,

3 God sent His only Son Jesus Christ to die for our sins.

Jesus is the Son of God. He lived a sinless life and then died on the cross to pay the penalty for our sins. "God demonstrates His own love for us in that while we were yet sinners Christ died for us."
Jesus rose from the dead and now He lives in heaven with God His Father. He offers us the gift of eternal life -- of living forever with Him in heaven if we accept Him as our Lord and Savior. Jesus said "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except by Me."
God reaches out in love to you and wants you to be His child. "As many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe on His name." You can choose to ask Jesus Christ to forgive your sins and come in to your life as your Lord and Savior.

A sinless Life

Each of us knows what it is like to sin. When you tell a lie, hold a grudge, cheat, kill or steal, you are sinning. There are other sins that are more subtle, such as pride, greed or arrogance. Jesus Christ is the only man who did not sin.
"In the past God spoke to our forefathers through the prophets at many times and in various ways, but in these last days He has spoken to us by His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, and through whom He made the universe. The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of His being, sustaining all things by His powerful word. After He had provided purification for sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven. So He became as much superior to the angels as the name He has inherited is superior to theirs.
"For to which of the angels did God ever say, 'You are my son; today I have become your father?' Or again, 'I will be His father, and He will be My son?'
"And again, when God brings His first born into the world, He says, 'Let all God’s angels worship Him.' In speaking of the angels He says, 'He makes his angels winds, His servants flames of fire.'
"But about the Son He says, 'Your throne, O God, will last forever and ever, and righteousness will be the scepter of your kingdom. You have loved righteousness and hated wickedness; therefore God, your God, has set you above your companions by anointing you with the oil of joy.'"1
Never once did Jesus sin. He was tempted, because He was human; but He overcame sin because He was God. In the Old Testament, priests would make sacrifices for sins. Jesus is the ultimate high priest. "Since we have a great high priest who has gone through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weakness, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are -- yet was without sin."2
There have been many good men in this world; but all have sinned, with one exception -- Jesus Christ. He personally was without sin. His enemies could not accuse Him of sin; no one could find anything that He had done wrong. He alone, as the matchless Son of God, has lived as a human being -- and as God -- without sin on this earth.

Overcoming the old nature

How do I handle tough times and temptations?
Does becoming a follower of Christ exempt you from difficulty? No. We don’t somehow pop into a trouble-free glass bubble when we are born again. I find I still have to battle wrong thoughts and temptations every day.
Our ongoing battle is a nasty carryover from our former life called “the old nature.” Though we received a new nature at conversion, that trouble-causing old nature hangs around, throwing up roadblocks to the Christ-centered life. It’s not easy to disconnect from thoughts and habits that defined us for so long.
But there’s good news! Our old nature was taken to the grave by Jesus when he was crucified. The new nature we received in its place was a fantastic exchange! Our job now is to be aggressive in overcoming that old nature. The Apostle Paul says, “Count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus” (Romans 6:11 NIV). In other words, walk out what was accomplished when Christ died for you.
Please read Galatians 5: 16, 17. It provides the key. In our new life we are to “walk in the Spirit.” That means you allow the Holy Spirit, now living in you, to shape your thoughts, guide your steps, govern your reactions and correct you when you stray. The old nature is real. But God has made it possible for you to walk in victory.
KEY VERSE: “Take off the old self with its practices…and put on the new self” (Colossians 3:9,10 NIV)

Fear Not; I Am with You

Fear Not; I Am with You
Scripture:God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.” 2 Timothy 1:7.
What are you afraid of, and why are you afraid?
At this time of year, people throughout the ages have felt spooked when the summer’s time of plenty gives way for the coldness and death of greenery that come in late autumn. Ancient Celts believed that the line between the worlds of the dead and living became blurred during this season. After Christianity took hold, people in those regions still held on to superstitions. They fought their fears with costumes, lanterns, and community events.
But God tells us that we don’t need superstition. He has conquered all evil – even death – and we, as His children, have nothing to fear!
Do Christians Fear?
Through the Bible, God warns us to beware of evil: “Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour.” (1 Peter 5:8) We have to be on the lookout for all kinds of evil. We don’t want to be taken by surprise; we want to “watch and pray”. However, we know that we don’t have to fear, because God also tells us in Isaiah 41:10, “Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you.” We can rely on our loving Father to protect us when evil and danger appear! If someone or something is attacking us, we know we’re “in the right”, and can easily remember to pray against that kind of evil. But what about the evil within – when we give in to the temptation to sin? We Christians are still human, and through that humanity, we have inherited a sinful nature. And there’s nothing we ourselves can do to keep from having to pay the penalty for sin – death: “The wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 6:23) As sinners, we must rely on God’s grace for forgiveness and salvation. We can depend ONLY on our Lord to save us. Jesus took all our sin onto Himself and paid the price – death and separation from the Father!
We Don’t Have to Be Afraid!
But we know that the grave COULD NOT hold our Lord! Because Jesus is part of God, the power of God worked a miracle so strong, that Christ triumphed over death, emerging from His tomb after the three days.
Do you love your life so passionately that you’d hang on to it, no matter what? As Christians, we are instructed to follow Christ’s example: to be willing to let go of, or even sacrifice, our earthly lives, because we know that the eternal life that comes after is even better.
The Apostle Paul gave us an example of a good attitude about this: “I want to know Christ and experience the mighty power that raised Him from the dead. I want to suffer with Him, sharing in His death, so that one way or another I will experience the resurrection from the dead!” (Philippians 3:10-11)
Paul’s words reinforce for us that we have nothing to fear – nothing bad on earth, even death, can compare with God’s glory in eternal life. The life of Jesus calls us to be His passionate followers, loving and trusting Him, clinging to Him more than our earthly lives.
Instead, We Can Believe
We trust Jesus to take the guilt of our sin away by the sacrifice of His death. Therefore, we can trust His promise to fulfill God’s purpose after our earthly deaths. Jesus said, “I am the Resurrection and the Life. Anyone who believes in Me will live, even after dying. Everyone who lives in Me and believes in Me will never ever die.” John 11:25-26
What a miracle; what a promise!
One of the first steps of becoming a Christian is to believe that Jesus is the Son of God, and that the miracles of His life, death, and resurrection can teach us to live righteous lives, guarantee the forgiveness of our sins, and promise us the life everlasting at His side, in Heaven. He told us that when we believe in Him and strive to live our lives righteously, as He did, He will conquer death in us.
Jesus gave us the ultimate examples of faith; prayer; loving; cooperating, or working together, with friends; and more. His was a sinless existence. And although we still might sin sometimes because of our humanity, we can try to live lives like Jesus’s, following God’s will even to death, without needing to fear it.

An Eternal Life
God has given us a marvelous gift. We can live our lives in freedom from the bondage of sin! Although we were born into sin and death as our human inheritance, God has adopted us as His children, and we have a new inheritance.
St. Paul wrote that, “Just as death came into the world through a man, now the resurrection from the dead has begun through another Man.” (1 Corinthians 15:21).
Jesus takes us from the legacy of death into the legacy of rebirth and life everlasting.
Because of all this, we MUST live in a way that is pleasing to God. We want to please our Father. Since He has given us so much, we must eagerly give our lives back to Him. We have a new inheritance, a rebirth; we no longer live in sin and face death. Let our earthly lives reflect our heavenly lives!
St. Paul summed it up: “Just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.” (Romans 6:4)

Jesus' Love and Compassion

Jesus' Love and Compassion

By GodLife
Jesus' love and compassion were remarkable. He came at a turbulent time, where nations had been at war with each other for many years. Yet Jesus taught people not just to love their friends, but to love even their enemies. He said, "I tell you who hear Me: love your enemies; do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you. If someone strikes you on one cheek, turn to him the other also. If someone takes your cloak, do not stop him from taking your tunic. Give to everyone who asks you, and if anyone takes what belongs to you, do not demand it back. Do to others as you would have them do to you…Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful."1
Christ not only taught love, He also modeled love Himself. Jesus forgave people their sins when they came to Him. "One day as He was teaching, Pharisees and teachers of the law, who had come from every village of Galilee and from Judea and Jerusalem, were sitting there. And the power of the Lord was present for Him to heal the sick. Some men came carrying a paralytic on a mat and tried to take him into the house to lay him before Jesus. When they could not find a way to do this because of the crowd, they went up on the roof and lowered him on his mat through the tiles into the middle of the crowd, right in front of Jesus. When Jesus saw their faith, He said, 'Friend, your sins are forgiven.'"2
Jesus was also filled with compassion for those who had needs. "Jesus went through all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the good news of the kingdom and healing every disease and sickness. When He saw the crowds, He had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd."3 This was a frequent occurrence for Him and not just something He felt only occasionally. His love was not limited to His friends and those He knew. The Bible says, "God is love."4 Christ's very nature, as God, is love.

Jesus is Salvation

Jesus Is Salvation

When John the Baptist saw Jesus coming toward him, he said, "Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!"1 What did he mean? In the Old Testament, God told the people of Israel to sacrifice a lamb to pay for their sin. The problem was that after the lamb was sacrificed, the people of Israel would continue to sin. So even a pure, spotless lamb could not ultimately take away their sin.
When John saw Jesus, he knew Jesus was the true Lamb of God who would take away the sin of the world for good. All who would come to Jesus as their Savior could be truly forgiven of their sin. How was this possible? It is just as if you owed $100 and had no money to pay. The penalty for nonpayment is prison. Suddenly, along comes someone who pays your debt for you. They could do it in one of two ways. They could pay the $100; or they could go to prison for you. In either case, you are now free, because someone has taken your place.
That is what Jesus Christ did. Sin has a penalty -- death. Jesus came to earth not just to be a good teacher or the perfect model of love; He came to pay the penalty for our sins. Whether we think our sins are great or small, each of us sinned and deserve to be judged. We do not deserve the perfection of heaven forever.
Jesus Christ, alone, truly deserves to be in heaven forever. Yet He voluntarily chose to come to die for our sins. He lived on earth and did not sin. He was poor, yet did not steal. He was abused, but did not retaliate. He was humiliated, yet He did not hate. He was scorned and ignored, but He responded in love. Because He paid that penalty, we can go free.
Salvation is a gift from God. You cannot earn it. The Bible states, "The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord."2 Salvation is a free gift. Jesus Christ is the only answer for the sins of mankind.

God hears your prayers

God Hears Your Prayers

By GodLife on Jan 15, 2013
Part 5 from the series Look to Jesus

Every culture has a concept of prayer—of calling out to God for help.

But not every culture believes that God will hear your prayers.  Some think that you have to be a very good person to be heard by God. Others think that you have to say certain prayers with certain words for God to hear. So what is the truth? The Bible says you are a child of God by your faith in Jesus, and God hears your prayers.  Isaiah 30:19 says, “How gracious He will be when you cry for help! As soon as He hears, He will answer you.” Have you ever seen a mother rushing to her crying baby? Even though the baby can’t express himself clearly, his mother cares so much to help because of her great love.  That’s a picture of God’s concern for you, His child, when you pray to Him.

But you have to realize how important it is that the God of the whole universe hears your prayers.

This isn’t like talking about your problems to your best friend who can’t do anything to help.  Imagine you worked for a huge company.  Whenever most people had a problem, they had to go through the line of authority and figure it out themselves.  But you are the child of the president of the company, so you can go straight to your dad, the person in charge, who loves you and wants to help you.  That’s a small picture of your special relationship with God, the boss of the whole universe and your heavenly Father. Jesus said, “In that day you will no longer ask me anything. Very truly I tell you, my Father will give you whatever you ask in my name” (John 16:23).  So do not hesitate to come to God with your problems and concerns. He loves you more than you understand and wants you to ask Him for help.  Take a moment right now to talk with Him and thank Him for hearing you.

God Heard My Prayer

“Growing up, I never felt like I had anybody who would fight for me.  When I started to get to know God, it was really hard for me to understand that He sincerely wanted to help me out.  I remember one time, there was something I had been trying to solve for months.  Finally one day, when I was spending time with God, He said to me, "Why don't you just ask ME for a solution?"  I'd never thought of actually relying on God; I didn't think He really cared that much.
So I cried a little and asked Him to help me.  The craziest thing happened!  The very thing I had been trying to do for months was quickly solved and God made it clear that He heard me and that He even loved me!  From that day, I realized that God is truly a "very present help" in time of need, like it says in Psalm 46.  He is so close, and is hoping each one of us will talk to him, to tell Him what we need, like we would to a trusted friend” Emilie

For Today

Thank God for hearing and caring about your every prayer. Talk to Him about something that is bothering you and ask Him to help you.
